Eurovision 2027 in Bulgaria
Bulgaria hosts the Eurovision Song Contest for the first time after DARA won the 2026 contest in Vienna with Bangaranga, the country's first Eurovision victory. The 71st edition is organized by the European Broadcasting Union together with the host broadcaster, Bulgarian National Television (BNT).
The EBU and BNT announced Burgas as the host city on August 13, 2026. It is one of the smaller host cities in the contest's recent history, a seaside city of around 200,000 people, and the whole place is expected to turn into one big fan zone for the week.
Expect tens of thousands of visiting fans, delegations from participating countries and international press, plus a Eurovision Village and city events that do not require a ticket at all.
Show dates and schedule
There are three televised shows: Semi-Final 1 on Tuesday, May 11, Semi-Final 2 on Thursday, May 13, and the Grand Final on Saturday, May 15, 2027. Which semi-final each country performs in gets decided at the allocation draw closer to the event.
Around the televised shows, six preview shows are planned between May 10 and 15. These are full dress rehearsals in front of an audience, they are normally ticketed separately, and they are the realistic way in if Grand Final tickets sell out in minutes, which they usually do.
Most traveling fans arrive over the weekend of May 8 and 9 and stay through the final. Between shows there is the Eurovision Village, public rehearsals on screens, and a beach city waking up for the season.
The venue and the city
The shows take place at Arena Burgas, a multi-purpose arena opened in 2023, the largest indoor venue on the Bulgarian coast. For concerts it holds up to 15,000 people, and BNT has been working on the Eurovision layout since the host city announcement.
Burgas itself is Bulgaria's fourth-largest city and its second port, wrapped around a bay on the Black Sea. The center is compact and walkable: the Sea Garden park runs along the coast, the pier is the city's landmark, and the beach starts right below the park. In mid-May the city is warming up for summer but still ahead of the tourist crowds.
Getting to Burgas
Burgas Airport (BOJ) sits about 10 km northeast of the center and normally serves seasonal European routes, which ramp up exactly around May. Expect airlines and charters to add capacity for Eurovision week, and book flights early because a 15,000-seat arena means serious demand into a mid-size airport.
Flying in
If there is no direct flight from your city, route through Sofia (SOF), Bulgaria's main hub about 380 km west, and continue by domestic flight, bus or car. Varna Airport (VAR), about 130 km up the coast, is the closest alternative and a solid plan B for sold-out dates.
Overland from Sofia and the region
The Trakia motorway links Sofia and Burgas in roughly four hours by car, with frequent intercity buses taking a bit longer and trains the slow, scenic option. Bulgaria is in the EU and Schengen, so driving in from Greece, Romania or the rest of the EU means no border queues.
Getting around town
Central Burgas is walkable, and city buses plus inexpensive taxis cover the rest. Ride-hailing options are limited compared to bigger capitals, so grab a taxi from an official rank or have your hotel call one.
Where to stay
Burgas has city hotels and apartments rather than giant resorts, and a contest audience this size will stretch them. Book as soon as your plans firm up: the center near the Sea Garden is the best base for the fan atmosphere, and prices for Eurovision week started moving the day the host city was announced.
If the city fills up, the coast helps out: Pomorie and Nesebar sit within about 20 to 40 minutes, and the big hotel inventory of Sunny Beach is roughly 40 km north. Mid-May is before the package-holiday season, so many coastal hotels will be opening early for Eurovision demand.
Mid-May on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast is mild: daytime temperatures around 17 to 21 degrees, cooler evenings, and a sea still too cold for most swimmers. Bring a jacket for the nights and something for the odd shower.
Tickets: what we know
