The short version

  • July 23 to August 8, 2027, with the Opening Ceremony at the Estadio Nacional. Baseball and cricket start earlier, on July 21 and 22.
  • Venues spread across Lima and Callao: VIDENA in San Luis, Villa María del Triunfo, Villa El Salvador, the Costa Verde and the Punta Rocas surf break.
  • Tickets are not on sale yet and no prices have been published. Follow lima2027.org.pe for the sales launch.
  • Foreign visitors can only buy a Peruvian SIM in person, after a biometric ID check. A Peru eSIM installed before you fly works from the moment you land.

Lima hosts the Pan Ams again

Lima hosts the Pan American Games for the second time, eight years after Lima 2019. The city won a Panam Sports vote against Asunción in March 2024, after Barranquilla lost the hosting rights.

The Games reuse the venues built or renovated for 2019, so no new stadiums are needed. The mascot is Rimo, a gecko native to Lima, and the slogan is "Brighter Together".

In January 2026, Panam Sports moved the Games one week later than first planned. Older articles still list July 16 to August 1, so trust the new dates.

Dates and key sessions

The Opening Ceremony is on Friday, July 23, 2027 at the Estadio Nacional, and the Games close on Sunday, August 8. Baseball starts on July 21 and cricket, new to the program, on July 22.

The first medal is the women's race walk half marathon on July 24. Swimming runs July 26 to 30, surfing August 1 to 7 and athletics August 2 to 7.

The last day is busy

On August 8, medals are decided in several sports, including archery, fencing, golf and karate, before the Closing Ceremony. The Parapan American Games follow from August 20 to 29.

Venues across Lima

The organizers list six main venue clusters across Lima and Callao. Most were built or renovated for Lima 2019.

They sit in different districts, from San Luis in central Lima to Punta Negra on the southern coast. Check which venue your sport uses before you book a hotel.

Estadio Nacional, central Lima

Hosts the Opening Ceremony on Friday, July 23, 2027, as it did for Lima 2019.

VIDENA, San Luis

The main hub: athletics stadium, velodrome, aquatics center and indoor halls. Swimming runs July 26 to 30 and athletics August 2 to 7.

Villa María del Triunfo Sports Complex

Baseball and softball stadiums, plus hockey, rugby sevens and Basque pelota. Baseball starts first, on July 21.

Costa Verde Pan American Complex, San Miguel

Urban and beach sports on the Pacific shore, including BMX racing, BMX freestyle, roller speed skating and the skate park.

Coliseo Eduardo Dibós, San Borja

One of Lima's main indoor arenas, used for indoor competitions.

Villa El Salvador Sports Center

A modern multi-sport hall in the south of the city, closely tied to Peruvian volleyball.

Punta Rocas, Punta Negra

The surf venue on the coast south of Lima. Surfing runs August 1 to 7, with the medal rounds on the last two days.

Getting there and around

International flights land at Jorge Chávez International Airport (LIM) in Callao. Its new passenger terminal opened on June 1, 2025.

Metro Line 1

Line 1 runs north to south from San Juan de Lurigancho to Villa El Salvador, through San Luis, San Borja and Villa María del Triunfo. It is the quickest way to the southern venues and runs until 22:00.

Traffic and ride-hailing

Lima's traffic is slow at rush hour, so leave plenty of time for evening sessions. Ride-hailing apps like Uber cover the gaps after late finishes, and they need mobile data.

Punta Rocas

The surf venue is outside the city on the southern coast, beyond the reach of the metro. Plan a car, a ride-hailing trip or organized transport for surf days.

Where to stay and the winter weather

Miraflores, Barranco and San Isidro are the usual bases for visitors, with the most hotels and restaurants. San Borja and San Luis put you closer to VIDENA and the Dibós arena.

July and August are winter in Lima: grey skies, high humidity and little sun. Average highs are around 19 to 20°C and lows around 15 to 16°C.

Pack a light jacket

A fine morning drizzle called garúa is common in winter and usually dries up by the afternoon. Heavy rain is rare, but outdoor evening sessions feel cool and damp.

Tickets: what we know

As of October 8, 2026, tickets are not on sale and the organizers have not published prices or a sales date. Ticketing is one of the jobs the organizing committee has left for the final year.

The official sports schedule is already out, so you can pick your sessions now. Watch lima2027.org.pe for the sales launch.

Buy only from official channels

Any site selling Lima 2027 tickets today is not an official seller, because no public sale has opened. When sales start, use the ticket channel linked from lima2027.org.pe.

SIM vs eSIM in Peru

Peru is outside the roaming bundles of most European plans, and daily roaming passes add up over a 17-day event. You will lean on data for tickets, ride-hailing, maps and translation.

Under rules from Peru's telecom regulator Osiptel, foreigners can only buy a mobile line in person at an operator's service center. The store checks your identity biometrically against the immigration database.

A Peru eSIM skips the store: you install it before you fly and data works when you land. eSIMPal's Peru plans run on the Movistar network, with 4G LTE and 5G where available.
