The short version
- June 24 to July 25, 2027: 32 teams, 64 matches, eight host cities. Brazil opens the tournament at the Maracanã on June 24.
- Belo Horizonte, Brasília, Fortaleza, Porto Alegre, Recife, Rio de Janeiro, Salvador and São Paulo. Rio hosts the final, São Paulo a semi-final and the bronze final.
- Tickets are not on sale yet. FIFA takes registrations of interest at FIFA.com/tickets, and the final draw on December 11, 2026 sets the groups.
- Brazil sits outside the roaming bundles of most home plans, and a local SIM means a store visit with your passport. A Brazil eSIM installed before you fly works from the moment you land.
The first Women's World Cup in South America
Brazil hosts the 10th FIFA Women's World Cup, the first held in South America. It is the second edition with 32 teams, after Australia and New Zealand in 2023.
Brazil qualified automatically as hosts. Most places are decided in continental qualifying, and the last three go through a play-off tournament in February 2027.
The Maracanã becomes only the third stadium to host both a men's and a women's World Cup final. The other two are the demolished Råsunda in Sweden and the Rose Bowl in Pasadena.
Dates and match schedule
The tournament opens on Thursday, June 24, 2027 with Brazil at the Maracanã and ends with the final at the same stadium on Sunday, July 25. Brazil's other group games are at Arena Itaquera in São Paulo on June 29 and at Estádio Nacional in Brasília on July 4.
Every host city stages at least seven matches, including at least one knockout game. Brasília, Porto Alegre, Recife and Salvador host games up to the round of 16, while Belo Horizonte, Fortaleza, Rio and São Paulo also get quarter-finals.
The schedule published in August 2026 fixes the date and city of every slot, but not which teams play there. After the final draw on December 11, 2026, FIFA publishes an updated schedule with teams and kick-off times, so wait for it before booking anything non-refundable.
Host cities and stadiums
FIFA chose eight host cities out of 12 candidates in May 2025. They stretch from Porto Alegre in the far south to Fortaleza on the northeast coast, close to the equator.
All eight stadiums were venues at the 2014 men's World Cup, so the infrastructure is proven. The list below shows what each city hosts according to the current schedule.
Rio de Janeiro: Estádio do Maracanã
Opening match on June 24, a quarter-final, a semi-final and the final on July 25. The stadium has its own metro station on Line 2.
São Paulo: Arena Itaquera
Brazil's second group game on June 29, a quarter-final, a semi-final and the bronze final. The arena is in the city's east zone, on Metro Line 3.
Belo Horizonte: Estádio Mineirão
Group games and knockout games up to a quarter-final, in the capital of Minas Gerais.
Fortaleza: Arena Castelão
Group games and knockout games up to a quarter-final, on the warm northeast coast.
Brasília: Estádio Nacional
Brazil's third group game on July 4, with matches up to the round of 16. The stadium sits on the capital's central axis.
Porto Alegre: Estádio Beira-Rio
Matches up to the round of 16 on the Guaíba riverfront. It is the southernmost host city and the coldest in midwinter.
Recife: Arena de Pernambuco
Matches up to the round of 16. The arena is in São Lourenço da Mata, on the western edge of the Recife metro area.
Salvador: Arena Fonte Nova
Matches up to the round of 16, at a stadium close to the historic center of Salvador.
Getting there and between cities
São Paulo Guarulhos (GRU) and Rio de Janeiro Galeão (GIG) are Brazil's main international gateways, with domestic connections to every host city. If your team plays in the northeast, compare fares into Recife, Salvador or Fortaleza too.
Fly between cities
Brazil is continental in scale: Porto Alegre and Fortaleza are more than 3,000 km apart in a straight line. Domestic flights with LATAM, GOL and Azul are the practical way to follow a team, and fares climb as match days approach.
Rio and São Paulo
The busiest pair is Rio to São Paulo: about an hour by air between the city airports Santos Dumont and Congonhas, or around six hours by intercity bus. There are no long-distance passenger trains between the host cities.
Getting around in the cities
Every host city has a metro or urban rail line, though coverage varies a lot. Ride-hailing apps such as Uber and 99 fill the gaps after night matches, and both need mobile data.
Where to stay and the winter weather
June and July are winter in Brazil, and the host cities span very different climates. Fortaleza, Recife and Salvador stay warm, while São Paulo, Belo Horizonte and Brasília have cool evenings and Porto Alegre can get properly cold.
Rio and São Paulo have deep hotel and apartment supply, but match days and the final weekend will push prices up. Book once your team's fixtures are known after the draw; in Rio, Copacabana, Ipanema and Botafogo are well-connected bases.
Following a team from Porto Alegre to Fortaleza can mean a jacket one week and beach weather the next. Brasília is in its dry season in July, while the Recife and Salvador coast sees regular showers at this time of year.

Tickets: what we know
As of October 7, 2026, tickets are not on sale and FIFA has not published prices or sales phases. Fans can register their interest at FIFA.com/tickets, which does not reserve a seat.
The final draw at the Museum of Modern Art in Rio on December 11, 2026 decides the groups, and an updated schedule with teams and kick-off times follows. That is the moment to plan which cities to visit.
Any site selling Women's World Cup 2027 tickets today is not an official seller, because no public sale has opened. When sales start, buy through FIFA.com/tickets and nowhere else.
SIM vs eSIM in Brazil
Brazil is not part of the EU roam-like-at-home zone, and roaming from most home plans means daily passes that add up over a month-long tournament. You will lean on data for match tickets, ride-hailing, maps and translation.
A local prepaid SIM from Vivo, Claro or TIM is cheap, but it has to be registered, and visitors usually do that with a passport in a carrier store. Expect a queue and menus in Portuguese.
A Brazil eSIM installed before departure skips the store: data works when you land, your home number stays active for calls and bank codes, and one plan covers all eight host cities.
